Welcome to the blog of the CCAC Children’s Garden! This blog is meant to keep you, the employees, partners and associates of the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, updated on the garden and activities involving the garden. My name is Chris Vasilakis (Chris V. or just Chris) and I have been a volunteer at the CCAC for six years this May. I volunteer in Child Life and serve as gardener-in-residence. The garden provides a safe, fun and educational place for the children who visit the center. It provides an interactive experience where the kids are allowed to dig, plant, harvest and explore all while under the supervision of a CCAC employee. It also serves as a place of relaxation and reflection for adults too.
There is a more in depth introduction to the garden and its history under the ‘About’ link on the right side of the screen. Right now I will explain a little more about the blog. As I said, this blog will serve to keep everyone updated on the happenings in the garden; what’s growing, what is ready to harvest, who is visiting (non-human) and what do they do while there. There will be a gallery of images from seasons past and the current season. There will be alerts about new garden features and plants. Also, there will be opportunity for Q & A.
The blog is open to comments, however, they will be moderated so they won’t appear as soon as you post. This is to prevent any spam posting attempts, that will inevitably show up, from appearing on the pages.
Please, look around and enjoy. I hope that you will ask questions, make suggestions, and maybe learn a thing or too.

you are the queen of all the green here! the children LOVE walking through the garden, and, upon leaving the center, really enjoy taking something home that they may have learned about for the first time:) thank you for all that you do, Chris, and all that you have done to make the garden possible!

Chris, this is great!! I can’t wait to hear all about the garden and, possibly, get some gardening tips (I purchased a tosy turvy tomato planter, so I need all the tips I can get). THanks for all you do AND keeping us in the loop!

WOW, Chris! You never cease to amaze me! You know I don’t have a green thumb AT ALL- but I learn so much from you and I attempt to create the beauty you do, at my own home. Thanks for the blog it will help when I can’t get to you. I look forward to watching the garden flourish all summer.

Chris-Thanks. With all your help last year, I got the front of my house looking more like I wanted it to. I still got a ways to go, and this is a fun diversion from work. I bought some lavender from a merchant in Parade magazine. I dreamed that the aroma would be all around. The reality of it was that I got a dozen plants that were 1/4 the size of my pinky that were in bad shape. You are my guru! Thanks again.
